Arts Minister Troy Grant has called on dancers and choreographers in Sydney’s West to apply for the NSW Government’s $30,000 dance fellowship.
The NSW Dance Fellowship is designed to assist established choreographers and dance practitioners to take the next step in their professional careers.
“Sydney’s west has a well-established performing arts sector but it is sometimes under acknowledged,” Mr Grant said.
“This fellowship will support a program of development that might include travel, a mentorship or internship, residencies, or the creation of a new work to bolster the careers of NSW dance artists and the contribution they make to the sector.
“I encourage established and mid-career choreographers and dance practitioners from across the State to consider applying for this fellowship.
Mr Grant met with performing artists from FORM Dance Projects at their Parramatta Studios, and watched choreographers Miranda Wheen and Matt Cornell perform part of their new work.
“NSW makes the largest contribution to Australia’s live performing arts revenue and ticket sales.
This fellowship will support the next generation of performing arts professionals and I look forward to announcing the recipient and seeing their work later this year,” Mr Grant said.
FORM Dance Projects Ambassador Chris Bath said this was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the immense and diverse talent in Sydney’s West.
“This Fellowship is an opportunity for artists to showcase their body of work and shape the future direction of their careers,” Ms Bath said.
“FORM Dance Projects is developing outstanding talent and making a significant contribution to the State’s arts sector.
“I am a huge advocate for developing and promoting the many talented artists in Western Sydney,” Ms Bath said.
The NSW Dance Fellowship, offered by Arts NSW, will be assessed by an independent peer panel and the winner is expected to be announced later this year.
