Katrina Hodgkinson med rel: Australian Garden Show Sydney blooms once again

Assistant Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Katrina Hodgkinson, said gardeners and horticulturalists from across the world will have their eyes on Sydney this spring with the return of the Australian Garden Show Sydney (AGGS) in September.

Ms Hodgkinson today launched the 2014 show, which last year attracted 25,000 visitors.

“During four days from Thursday 4 September to Sunday 7 September 2014, Centennial Parklands will blossom when Sydney’s international garden show opens its doors for the second time,” Ms Hodgkinson said.

“I warmly welcome the return of this show and look forward to seeing visitors from across the nation embrace their love of the great outdoors, and invite them to see the amazing gardens and horticultural skill that will be on display.

“Following last year’s success, organisers have big ideas for this year’s show, which will stir the imagination of gardeners, allowing them to explore gardening techniques and design.”

Ms Hodgkinson said this year’s show, led by creative mind Anthony Bastic, has more than doubled in size and will include a range of ambassadors, including:
curator Myles Baldwin;
sustainability curator Indira Naidoo;
UK horticulturalist Andrew Fisher Tomlin;
Australian gardening royalty Don Burke; and
Horticultural Media Association president Angus Stewart.

“With two feature gardens, ten inspirational gardens, ten city gardens and ten balcony gardens there will be so much to see and learn,” Ms Hodgkinson said.

“St Vincent’s Curran Foundation is this year’s charity partner; which will see ambassador Andrew Fisher Tomlin teamed up with medical researchers from St Vincent’s hospital to explore in a practical sense how design can affect our wellbeing.

“Situated within close proximity to the city, the Australian Garden Show Sydney will provide a fantastic day out for all members of the family.

“I encourage Sydneysiders and visitors alike to make the most of the spring-time weather, receive some great gardening tips and ideas and enjoy the spectacular displays.”
