ASHER: Singapore’s boutique beer gets Melbourne flavour

Singapore’s first locally-owned, independent commercial microbrewery plans to establish a new brewery and beer garden in Melbourne’s west.

Speaking in Singapore where she is leading the Victorian Coalition Government’s current South East Asia Super Trade Mission, Trade and Employment Minister Louise Asher said the new RedDot facility in Truganina will be the company’s first brewery outside Singapore.

“I congratulate RedDot for choosing Melbourne as the location for its new brewery, which will enable the company to expand its business and introduce its highly regarded unfiltered and unprocessed beers into the Australian market,” Ms Asher said.

“Victoria’s excellent reputation for high food safety standards, the availability of affordable industrial land and strong State Government support were instrumental in RedDot choosing Melbourne for this major investment.

“Victorian-made RedDot beer will initially be sold to the Australian retail and food service industries, and the company also has plans to export to China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand,” Ms Asher said.

The new RedDot brewery at Truganina is expected to commence operating later this year and will be equipped with two production lines capable of producing 12,000 bottles and 10,000 cans per hour and creating 25 jobs.

RedDot operates microbreweries in Singapore at Boat Quay Road and its flagship operation at Dempsey Road, which attracts tourists from around the world.

The Coalition Government has supported RedDot’s move to Melbourne through the Victorian Government Business Office in Kuala Lumpur and Department of State Development, Business and Innovation (DSDBI).

The Coalition Government’s current Super Trade Mission involves more than
130 leading Victorian companies exploring opportunities in key South East Asian markets, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar.

The 2013 Victorian Government South East Asia Super Trade Mission generated anticipated export sales of over $230 million.

Since December 2010, the Victorian Government has organised 74 trade missions to 32 countries, with more than 3,000 companies taking part.
These companies have reported a total of nearly $4.5 billion in forecast export sales in the 24-months following their participation.
