Lucknow, May 30 (IANS) For vehicle owners in Uttar Pradesh who fancy VIP numbers, here’s some good news: They can now register for these online, an official said Friday.
As a pilot project, the online registration scheme, for which special software has been developed, will be launched in four cities – Lucknow, Aligarh, Muzaffarnagar and Allahabad. The scheme is already at the test stage in Kanpur where several people here have registered online, a transport official told IANS.
Uttar Pradesh Transport Commissioner Rajnish Gupta said the first phase, including the four cities, will be launched June 2.
District transport officers have been authorized to issue VIP numbers on payment of a fixed fee online.
Under the scheme, registration numbers of vehicles have been defined in various categories like VIP, very attractive, important and attractive. Based on the response and revenue generated through online registration, officials said, the scheme will be later implemented in other districts of the state.
