Madrid, May 20 (IANS) Spanish Primera Liga club Celta Vigo has offered former player Eduardo Berizzo a two-year deal as its new coach to replace Luis Enrique, who was named Barcelona coach.
The Argentine manager arrives from coaching Chilean side O’Higgins. He served as Marcelo Bielsa’s assistant for Chile in the 2010 World Cup.
Berizzo played for Celta from 2001-05, helping it reach the Champions League in 2003 and the final of the Copa del Rey in 2001. He also played for River Plate and Marseille.
Enrique, 44, a former Barcelona player who has coached the club’s B-team, said last week that he would not be continuing at Celta Vigo, a team he coached to a mid-table position this season.
