NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation Stuart Ayres has joined with the entire motor sport community in paying tribute to the late Sir Jack Brabham AO, OBE.
Sir Jack passed away aged 88.
He won three world championships – 1959, 1960 and 1966.
His first two titles were in cars he helped develop, clinching his third title in a Brabham, making him the only driver to become a champion in a car of his own make.
Mr Ayres said Sir Jack’s titles were not just a product of his driving skill but of his engineering expertise.
“He was more than an Formula One racing legend; he was a motorsport genius,” said Mr Ayres.
“You only need to look at Sir Jack’s achievements to learn of his remarkable talent. 14 Grand Prix victories and 13 Grand Prix Pole positions.
“It’s little wonder he was the first F1 driver to receive a knighthood in 1979.
“On behalf of the NSW Government, I offer my sincere condolences to all of his family and friends at this very sad time.”
