TAKE THE LAW INTO YOUR OWN HANDS: LAW WEEK 2014

27There’s never been a better time to learn about the law, with more than 75 informative events to be held across NSW during National Law Week, Attorney General Brad Hazzard announced today.

“Everyone will have to deal with a legal issue at some stage of their lives but many people aren’t fully aware of their rights or the many free and low cost legal services available to them,” Mr Hazzard said.

“Law Week is about bringing the law to the community and there is a strong focus on connecting people with the services they need to resolve their legal problem.”

Mr Hazzard said there were events for people of all ages and backgrounds.

“School students will take part in mock investigations through to educating people about the need for enduring power of attorney and guardianship,” Mr Hazzard said.

Other Law Week events include:

· open days at courthouses
· sessions on strata living, buying and selling real estate and resolving neighbourhood disputes through mediation
· a presentation on domestic violence and family law
· seminars on consumer rights and
· the NSW Young Lawyers’ Golden Gavel public speaking competition

“The NSW legal system plays a vital role protecting the community and ensuring that those who do not respect the laws are held accountable,” Mr Hazzard said

“I encourage everyone to learn a little more about the law this week.”
