Gladys Berejiklian Med Rel – Station refresh at 19 major transport hubs underway

34Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian today said a $22 million station refresh program now underway at 19 key stations includes a deep clean, improved station security and less clutter on platforms.

Ms Berejiklian said train stations right across Sydney have been ignored for decades, and they had been left in ruins by the former Labor government.

“We are now working hard to clean up some of the busiest stations on the network, and customers will begin to see clean, modern looking facilities, in line with the world class service we are aiming to provide on our railways.

“Our customers are telling us they want cleaner facilities and improved security, so we are delivering on some of the busiest stations across Sydney.”

The 19 key stations undergoing the refresh program include Asquith, Berala, Blacktown, Bondi Junction, Burwood, Caringbah, Carramar, Chester Hill, Granville, Gymea, Hurstville, Kogarah, Lidcombe, Martin Place, Parramatta, Penrith, Redfern, St Leonards and Strathfield.

The work includes:

– Deep clean, painting and refresh of customer toilet facilities

– New water bubblers, new seating, additional bins

– Improvements to station security, with improved lighting and additional
Help Points where needed

– Removal of redundant equipment and general de-cluttering

– Improved landscaping

– Pigeon proofing to ensure general cleanliness around stations

The announcement comes after the NSW Government also said this week it was undergoing a $100 million upgrade of Wynyard Station, including an overhaul of the concourse and ticket area to make it easier for customers to move around the station.

Work has also started on an $8 million major refresh to Town Hall Station new tiling fresh paint, improved lighting and upgraded staircases.

Preparations are also underway to install new two new lifts at Circular Quay Station and Museum Station.
