New Delhi, May 3 (IANS) Four people were arrested for running an IPL betting syndicate from a house here, police said Saturday.
Rakesh Sethi (45), Bantu Nagpal (33), Sanjay Hasija (32) and Vishu Sethi (22) were arrested from a house in Rohini area in west Delhi Saturday evening.
Police said Sethi, a mechanical engineer and kingpin of the syndicate, disclosed that he along with three others used to put bets on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches. They were also providing lines to several other bookies.
The accused were earlier operating from Sonipat in Haryana but the local police became suspicious about their activities and they decided to shift to Delhi.
Police have also recovered 40 mobile phones, one T.V. set, a mobile signal booster, one laptop, a printer, a voice recorder along with notebooks for entering the bets from their possession.
Three mobile phones were being used to convey betting rates to the bookies. The amount of money bet on the match till the time of the raid stood at Rs.25 lakh approximately. The gang had so far accepted bets of nearly Rs.1 crore in the ongoing IPL season.
