Wallan Primary School set for $1.6 million facelift
· Premier announces $1.6 million upgrade of Wallan Primary School
· Students to benefit from more modern learning facilities
· Victorian Coalition Government building a better education system for all students
Wallan Primary School students are set to be the major beneficiaries of a $1.6 million upgrade of the school with Premier Denis Napthine joining Minister for Education Martin Dixon to announce the funding today.
Dr Napthine said funding for the project would be included in the upcoming Victorian State Budget.
“This $1.6 million commitment will make a real difference for students enrolled here at Wallan Primary School,” Dr Napthine said.
“With this funding, Wallan Primary School will be able to upgrade classrooms and the administration area.
“It will also enable internal refurbishments so that the 596 students enrolled here can enjoy the best facilities that support today’s modern teaching methods,” Dr Napthine said.
Mr Dixon said the upgrade was part of the Coalition Government’s strategy to improve education in Victoria.
“We understand that a better education system not only needs great school teachers and great school leadership, it also needs modern state-of-the-art facilities that students want to learn in,” Mr Dixon said.
“This is why the Coalition Government is undertaking major school upgrades around the state and is investing a record $8.8 billion in primary and secondary schooling.
Liberal Candidate for Yan Yean Sam Ozturk welcomed the Coalition Government’s announcement.
“Wallan Primary School has a great history, having opened in 1857 as Scots Church School, moving to its current location in 1984,” Mr Ozturk said.
“This upgrade will make sure the school continues to serve local families well for many years into the future.”
Funding for the upgrade will become available from July 1 this year.
