London, March 21 (IANS/CMC) World and Olympic 100 metres champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will open her Diamond League campaign in Doha.
The 27-year-old Jamaican starred at the 2012 London Olympics with a gold in the 100m and again at the 2013 Moscow World Championships, taking the sprint double. Recently, she dominated the World Indoors in Poland, capturing the 60m title and will line-up in Doha in the 100m.
“I enjoy running in Doha. The stadium is close and intimate which makes you feel connected with the fans,” said Fraser-Pryce.
Last year, Fraser-Pryce won the 200m in Doha and in Zurich, to finish the season tops over the half-lap. That triumph saw her complete the sprint double for the season.
“The 200 metres is the event I want to get better at. I am doing okay but I believe there is a lot more to give, so this season a lot will be placed on being better and faster at the 200 metres. Capturing another double would definitely top the year for me. Let’s see what happens,” she said.
Fellow Jamaican Kerron Stewart and Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria have both been confirmed for the meet carded for May 9.
